Volunteering FAQs

Volunteering FAQs:

Q. Can anyone sign up as a volunteer and attend the pre-sales?
A. Yes, anyone may sign up to volunteer for shifts which are filled on a first-come-first-serve basis. You do not have to be a consignor to volunteer. We welcome friends, moms, dads, aunts, uncles and grandparents, too. You can even have someone else volunteer for you. Check for details at your local sales event page.

Q. What do volunteers do?
A. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks including: item inspection, sale set-up and break-down, floor help, merchandise prep, team leading, meal preparation, providing snacks, customer service, safety inspection, and more! Check your local sales event page for the volunteer scheduler where you will find a complete listing of shifts available.

Q. Do I need to have prior experience?
A. Do not worry if you haven't volunteered with us before, we'll show you what to do! Please plan to arrive well before your shift for a little training. The arrival time before each shift varies by sales event, so please check your local site for additional information.

Q. Can I bring a guest to the volunteer pre-sale?
A. At this time, volunteers are not allowed to bring guests to the exclusive pre-sale. Each pre-sale pass is good for only one person to enter the pre-sale. Additionally, no children are allowed at the pre-sale.

Q. I'm pregnant or have a medical condition. Is it OK for me to be a volunteer?

A. If you are pregnant or have a medical condition, you will want to volunteer when the workload is less. We have several shifts available with jobs that can be done sitting down if you require. If you need these positions, please email your local event coordinator with your request when registering, and they will try to accommodate your request.

Q. What if I don’t see the barter or volunteer shift I want?
A. Available barters and volunteer shifts will be listed online. However, please contact your local event coordinator if you feel you have a unique barter to offer that is not listed. We are open to being creative. These opportunities are extended at the discretion of the local event coordinator.

Q. What should I wear to volunteer?
A. Your local JBF sale is probably not the best place to break out the floor-length gowns and high heels. Though we’re sure you’d look lovely, please consider comfort and ease of motion above fashion and flair. Most volunteers choose to wear comfortable pants such as jeans and a comfortable shirt, such as a short sleeved or long-sleeved T-shirt (and if you have a JBF shirt, by all means! Please wear it!). If you’d like, you can also layer so you can adjust to fit the conditions in your work space. Also, shoes that give good support and comfort such as tennis shoes are highly encouraged. Don’t worry, we know you’ll look just fabulous!
