Keeping Our Kids Safe

It is the goal of Just Between Friends to offer only the best items at all of our consignment sales events.

In light of the alarming number of recent recalls, we at Just Between Friends find it necessary to help parents be better informed about product safety. Below you will find links to important product safety websites. We also have a list of recalled items at all of our consignment sales events. We will update the recall lists by the first of every month. We welcome any additional recall information that you may have.

CRIBS

Just Between Friends can only accept the consignment of cribs manufactured on or after June 28, 2011.  Cribs manufactured from July 23, 2010 to June 28, 2011 may be consigned if the consignor provides a certificate of compliance from the crib manufacturer or retailer.  Cribs manufactured prior to July 23, 2010 will not be accepted under any circumstance.  Cribs that are unacceptable, for any reason, cannot be sold as toddler beds.  All cribs consigned with Just Between Friends must have a signed crib waiver from the consignor.

ADDITIONAL CRIB INFORMATION FROM THE CPSC

Beginning on June 28, 2011, all cribs sold in the United States must meet the new federal requirements issued by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. After that date, it will be illegal to manufacture, sell, contract to sell or resell, lease, sublet, offer, provide for use, or otherwise place in the stream of commerce a crib that does not comply with the CPSC’s new standards for full-size and non-full-size cribs. This includes manufacturers, retail stores, internet retailers, resale shops, auction sites and consumers.

You may have heard that the changes in the requirements are about drop sided cribs. While it is true that drop sided cribs will not meet the new standards, the changes go well beyond just eliminating the drop sides. The new crib safety standards include improved structural enhancements that cannot be seen by just looking at the crib. Any crib manufactured before July 23, 2010 will not be compliant. The date that a crib was manufactured should be located on the crib, generally somewhere on the mattress board. A crib that was manufactured between 7/23/10 and 6/28/11 may be compliant but there must be a certificate of compliance (COC) from the crib’s manufacturer/retailer to show that the crib meets the new standards. The COC must state that the crib meets the following standards, 16 CFR 1219 or 16 CFR 1220.

You can view the certificate of compliance requirements at http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/faq/elecertfaq.pdf

BABY WALKERS

Baby walkers that are consigned with Just Between Friends must meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standard.  Each walker must meet one of two requirements:  1) it must be too wide to fit through a standard doorway (at least 36 inches wide), or 2) it must have features, such as a gripping mechanism, to stop the walker at the edge of a step. The gripping mechanism will have rubber-like strips underneath or around the base to grip the floor and stop the walker at the edge of a step.

BATH SEATS

Bath seats or bath rings that are consigned with Just Between Friends must meet the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission standard.  Bath seats that do not meet the standard: 1) attach to the tub floor with suction cups and/or 2) were made before Dec 6, 2010 (see date code stamp on the bottom of the product.)  Safety warnings must be printed somewhere on the bath seat product.  Just Between Friends will not accept bath seats or bath rings that do not meet the safety standard.  The CPSC considers bath seats that do not meet the standard to be a drowning hazard.
